Bejun Mehta, Sophie Rennert, Francesca Ascioti & Giuseppina Bridelli Headline Innsbruck Festival of Early Music’s 2022 Season

The Innsbruck Festival of Early Music has announced its 2022 season, featuring three operas and a number of concerts. For the purpose of this article we will focus on the vocal works.

Operas
Carl Heinrich Graun’s opera “Silla” spotlights Bejun Mehta, Eleonora Bellocci, Valer Sabadus, Roberta Invernizzi, Hagen Matzeit, Samuel Mariño, and Mert Süngü. Alessandro De Marchi conducts a production by Georg Quander.
Performance Dates: Aug. 5 – 9, 2022
Carlo Pallavicino’s opera “L’amazzone corsara, ovvero L’Alvilda regina de’ Goti” showcases Shira Patchornik, Marie Theoleyre, Hannah De Priest, and Rémy Brès-Feuillet. Luca Quintavalle conducts a production by Alberto Allegrezza.

Giovanni Bononcini’s opera “Astarto” stars Francesca Ascioti, Giuseppina Bridelli, Ana Maria Labin, Paola Valentina Molinari, Theodora Raftis, and Luigi De Donato. Stefano Montanari conducts a production by Silvia Paoli.

Concerts
Soprano Rachel Redmond presents works by Domenico Scarlatti and Jean-Philippe Rameau alongside conductor Bernard Cuillier.

Sopranos Dorothea Mields and Barbara Zanichelli, and mezzo-soprano Marie-Claude Chappuis perform works by Luzzasco Luzzaschi, Girolamo Frescobaldi, Carlo Gesualdo, Claudio Monteverdi, and Luigi Rossi alongside harpist Margret Köll.

Tenor Enea Sorini, soprano Francesca Lombardi Mazzulli, mezzo-soprano Marisa Corvo, and bass Federico Sacchi sing music by Claudio Monteverdi alongside conductor Massimiliano Toni.

Soprano Roberta Mameli presents music by Giovanni Battista Ferrandini, Carl Heinrich Graun, Georg Friedrich Händel, and Reinhard Keiser alongside the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin.

Soprano Arianna Vendittelli, contralto Margherita Maria Sala, tenor Jeffrey Francis, and bass Luigi De Donato perform Georg Friedrich Händel’s “Il Messia.” Performance in Italian from a manuscript of the Händel-Haus Halle Foundation. Alessandro De Marchi conducts.

Mezzo-soprano Sophie Rennert sings music by Georg Friedrich Händel, Giuseppe Sammartini, Pietro Castrucci, and Francesco Barsanti alongside conductor Claudio Osele.

La Cetra Barockorchester & Vokalensemble presents works by Claudio Monteverdi, Giovanni Gabrieli, and Alessandro Grandi. Andrea Marcon conducts.

The festival ends with the grand final concert of the 13th Pietro Antonio Cesti International Baroque Singing Competition.
