Beaumaris Festival to Premiere Opera Centering on Princess Diana & Dodi Al Fayet’s Romance

The Beaumaris Festival is set to premiere Lisa Logan and David Peimer’s “A Silver Spoon” on July 1, 2022.

The chamber work is the first to explore the relationship between Princess Diana and Dodi Al Fayet, focusing on two criminals who have a plan to steal Diana’s jewels from an upcoming royal exhibition.

The opera will star Maggie Cooper as Diana with Sandeep Gurrapadi as Dodi. Other cast members including Phil Wilxoc, Jacob Bettinelli, Jeremy Huw Williams, and Joanna Gamble.  Anthony Hose conducts the Welsh Chamber Orchestra in a production that will be directed by Janette Smith.

“I am delighted to direct said this, my first opera, especially its contemporary themes of interracial marriage and privilege, with accessible melodic music,” Director Janette Smith said in an official press statement.

The production will be co-produced with Keynote Opera. The duration of the opera is approximately one hour and 50 minutes with one interval.

The Beaumaris Festival is held annually in Anglesey, North Wales.
