Beatrice Venezi is speaking out after being fired from the Teatro La Fenice.

The conductor spoke to Corriere della Serra and said that she was turned into “canon fodder” noting that she has suffered a lot of damage.

She also noted that that she had not been defended from any government officials “because I don’t have a membership card and I’m not functional. It’s not up to me to make political judgments; Italians will decide when it’s time to vote.”

When asked about the interview with La Nacion and her comments regarding nepotism, Venezi said, “I haven’t accused anyone of nepotism. The interview with La Nación speaks clearly. Do you mean the foundation’s unequal treatment of me? The employees have been slandering and defaming me for months, with the superintendent’s tacit consent.”

She added, that superintendent Nicola Colabianchi “allowed the orchestra to wage a hate campaign against me, with pins and flyers, giving the world a poor image of La Fenice. They questioned my competence, my talent, my career. They went so far as to say that the Colón in Buenos Aires is a provincial theater.”

The comments come after the Teatro La Fenice fired Venezi after her interview with La Nacion in which the Superintendent Colabianchi said that Venezi’s comments were offensive.

Since it was announce that Venezi would be Music Director of the Teatro La Fenice, controversy followed the company’s headlines due to protests against the conductor, her closeness to Giorgia Meloni’s government, and her lack of experience with the theater. Several board members also resigned when  the conductor was officially confirmed in March.
