Bayreuth Festival Announces Cast Change for ‘Tristan und Isolde’

By Francisco Salazar

The Bayreuth Festival has announced a cast change for its production of “Tristan und Isolde.”

The company said, “Due to a prolonged illness, Ekaterina Gubanova was unable to attend the necessary rehearsals for the new production of ‘Tristan und Isolde.’ The role of Brangäne will therefore be taken over by Christa Mayer.”

The company added, “Ekaterina Gubanova will sing the roles of Kundry and Venus as planned.”

Myaer made her Bayreuth debut in 2008 in the role of Erda in “Das Rheingold.” She has since performed in productions of “Siegfried,” “Götterdämmerung,” “Der fliegende Holländer,” and “Die Walküre.”

Mayer will join a cast that includes Andreas Schager, Günther Groissböck, Camilla Nylund, Olafur Sigurdarson, Birger Radde, Daniel Jenz, Lawson Anderson, and Matthew Newlin. Semyon Bychkov conducts the new production by Thorleifur Örn Arnarsson.

“Tristan und Isolde” opens on July 25, 2024 and runs through August 26, 2024.
