Bayreuth Festival Announces Cast Change for ‘Der Fliegende Holländer’

By Francisco Salazar

The Bayreuth Festival has announced a cast change for “Der Fliegende Holländer” for the performance on August 8, 2024.

The company said, “Due to an injury, Michael Volle will not be able to sing the title role in “Der Fliegende Holländer” on August 8th. We are very grateful to Tomasz Konieczny for taking over at short notice.”

Konieczny is well-known for the “Der Fliegende Holländer” as he has sung it at the Metropolitan Opera and Lyric Opera of Chicago. OperaWire raved about the production and said, “Konieczny was so fascinating from the start that, despite all the other incredible performances taking place, you couldn’t wait for him to get back on stage if only to hear him for a few moments.”

Konieczny joins a cast that includes Georg Zeppenfeld, Elisabeth Teige, Eric Cutler, Nadine Weissmann, and Matthew Newlin. Oksana Lyniv conducts the production by Dmitri Tcherniakov. Michael Volle returns on August 11, 2024.
