Bayerische Staatsoper Cancels Another Performance of ‘The Devil of Loudun’
By Francisco SalazarThe Bayerische Staatsoper has announced changes to its programming.
The company noted that “due to the current infection situation and associated staff shortages in the cast of the current new production of ‘The Devil of Loudun,’ the performance on Sun, July 3, 2022 has to be canceled. The remaining performance on July 7th, 2022 is still scheduled to take place.”
As a result, the company has added an additional performance of Verdi’s “La Traviata” with Lisette Oropesa, Stephen Costello, and Lucas Meachem on July 3, 2022. Tickets already purchased remain valid for the replacement performance.
The company previously canceled the second performance of the piece and on opening night, Wolfgang Koch was forced to cancel due to illness. As a result, the company found a very unusual solution with Robert Dölle, from the ensemble of the Residenz Theater performing the part scenically and Jordan Shanahan singing the role from the side.
