Bayerische Staatsoper Announces Conductor Change for ‘Tristan und Isolde’

The Bayerische Staatsoper has announced a conductor change for its production of “Tristan und Isolde.”

The company noted that Slovak conductor Juraj Valčuha has withdrawn from the production and will be replaced by Lothar Koenigs.

Koenigs has conducted at the Welsh National Opera, Teatro Real, Royal Opera House, Wiener Staatsoper, Edinburgh Festival, Metropolitan Opera, Staatstheater Stuttgart, La Monnaie Brussels, and Oper Frankfurt. His repertoire includes Mozart, Berg, Wagner, Strauss, and Janacek.

Koenigs will lead a production starring Stuart Skelton, René Pape, Anja Kampe, Wolfgang Koch, Sean Michael Plumb, and Jamie Barton.

“Tristan und Isolde” will be performed on July 21, 24, and 29, 2023 in Krzysztof Warlikowski’s production.
