Bare Opera Unveils Cast For ‘Don Giovanni’

By David Salazar

Bare Opera has announced the full cast for its season-opening production of “Don Giovanni.”

The company will showcase Suchan Kim in the title role with Laura León as Donna Anna and Liana Guberman as Donna Elvira. As Leporello, audiences will hear Brace Negron, while Pavel Sulyandziga will be Don Ottavio. Sarah Hayashi will be Zerlina and Paul An will take on the role of Il Commendatore.

The production will be directed by Malena Dayen, who was the creative mind behind the company’s recent production of “Maria de Buenos Aires.” The new production will feature projects with award-winning video artists Sangmin Chae.

“You will experience the character of Don Giovanni (often portrayed as a playful anti-hero) as the true sadistic predator he is, and witness women coming together to process their pain and trauma through some of the most dynamic music Mozart ever wrote,” said the press release. Much like the Wilde novel, ‘The Picture of Dorian Gray,’ we will unveil a soul rotting with decay beneath the charming and handsome exterior of the man we know as Don Giovanni.”

The opera will run between Oct. 18-20 at the Blue Building and will be produced alongside The Vanderbilt Republic.
