Bard SummerScape to Stream ‘Le Roi Arthus’ on World Opera Day
By David SalazarBard SummerScape is set to present an encore stream of “Le Roi Arthus” starting on Oct. 25 (which is, incidentally, World Opera Day).
Audiences who missed the summer production will get one week to stream the work via the company’s UPSTREAMING platform.
The opera starred Norman Garrett in the title role alongside Sasha Cooke as Guinevère. Leon Botstein conducted the production by Louisa Prouske.
Of the opera, OperaWire’s review noted, “This opera is a masterwork. Say what you will about how the work wears its influences on its sleeves, but there is no denying that those things put aside for a moment, ‘Le Roi Arthus’ has a very potent identity of its own. And given its themes about loyalty, crumbling political institutions, women fighting for their freedom, it has a lot to offer for our world today.“
