Bard SummerScape is set to present Chausson’s “King Arthur.”

The production will feature baritone Norman Garrett in the title role and mezzo-soprano Sasha Cooke. The original staging by Princess Grace Award-winner Louisa Proske represents the first fully staged American presentation. The cast will be rounded out by Matthew White, Brandon Cedel, Justin Austin, Andrew Bidlack, Wei Wu, and Andres Acosta.

Leon Botstein will conduct the American Symphony Orchestra and Bard Festival Chorale.

Chausson’s “King Arthur” is the composer’s sole opera and follows “Tristan und Isolde” in drawing on British chivalric mythology and depicting a king caught in a tragic love triangle.

Performances are set for July 25, 28, and 30 and August 1 before limited, in-person audiences in the Fisher Center on Bard’s Hudson Valley campus.

The first two performances on July 25 and July 28 will also be live-streamed.
