The Göteborgs Symfoniker has announced that Barbara Hannigan has extended its contract with the orchestra.

The orchestra said, “We can announce that Barbara Hannigan continues as our first guest conductor for three more seasons!”

Hannigan added, “I am incredibly proud to continue my collaboration with the Göteborgs Symfoniker. We’ve had so many exciting and inspiring concerts over the past few years, and I know there will be many more!”

Hannigan began her relationship with the orchestra in 2013 and will now continue with the orchestra through the 2027-2028 season.

The orchestra also announced that chief conductor Santtu-Matias Rouvali will leave his post during the 2024-2025 season so he can devote more time to guest conducting other orchestras and to his family. Rouvali has been the Symphony’s chief conductor since 2017.
