Barbara Hannigan Extends Contract with Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra

The Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra has extended Barbara Hannigan’s contract as Principal Guest Conductor.

The Canadian soprano will serve in her position through summer of 2025.

Hannigan has been the principal guest conductor of the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra since 2019 and has performed as both a soprano and conductor. She first appeared with the ensemble in 2013 as conductor and soloist before becoming the orchestra’s Artist in Residence in 2015-16. In 2018, Hannigan gave acclaimed performances of Stravinsky’s opera “The Road of the Rucklar” with the organization.

Hannigan is a well-known musician who has performed with the Berliner Philharmoniker, the London Symphony Orchestra, where she is Associate Artist, and the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France. She has sung with the Opéra de Paris and Royal Opera House, among others.
