Bampton Classical Opera to Perform Salieri’s ‘La Iocandiera’
By David SalazarBampton Classical Opera is set to present Salieri’s “La Iocandiera” this fall.
The opening performance of the production is set for July 18 and 19 at The Deanery Garden in Bampton, Oxfordshire. That will be followed by an August 25 showcase at Westonbirt School in Gloucestershire and a Sept. 6 date at The Barn at Old Wallan in Wadhurst, Sussex. There will also be a London performance, though the date and venue for that showcase have yet to be confirmed.
The work features a libretto by Domenico Poggo that explores the dynamic between innkeeper Mirandolina and a misogynist Cavalier she hopes to educate as well as her flings with a Count and Marquis. Andrew Griffiths will conduct a production directed by Jeremy Gray. Casting will be announced at a later date and this article will be updated to reflect that news.
This is the fifth Salieri opera that the company has performed following “Falstaff,” “La Fiera di Venezia,” “La Grotta di Trofonio,” and “La scuola dei gelosi.”
