AVA to present Mozart’s ‘Don Giovanni’
By Francisco SalazarPhiladelphia’s Academy of Vocal Arts (AVA) is set to present Mozart’s “Don Giovanni” this spring, April 27-May 9, 2023 in Center City, the Main Line and Bucks County.
The production will close the 2022-23 opera season and will be the first time the school presents the work since 2015.
This season the production will feature a special addition, alumnus Griffen Hogan Tracy (AVA ’22), who returns to the AVA stage to sing the role of the Commendatore. Griffen has been seen in previous AVA productions as Colline in “La Bohème,” Gremin in “Eugene Onegin,” and Antonio in “Le Nozze di Figaro.”
This production will also feature Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition National Semifinalists Yihan Duan and Sahel Salem.
Rounding out the cast will be Cumhur Görgün, Dylan Gregg, Lydia Grindatto, Peter Barber, Benjamin Dickerson, Angel Raii Gomez, Shawn Roth, Monique Galvão, Emily Margevich, Jenny Anne Flory, Ethel Trujillo, and Yue Wu. Christofer Macatsoris conducts while Jeffrey Buchman directs.
