Divaria Productions To Premiere “Don Giovanni in New York” At St. Patrick’s Old Cathedral

By Logan Martell

On May 23, 2018, St. Patrick’s Old Cathedral will be the venue where Divaria Productions showcases their new work “Don Giovanni in New York,” which follows the historical events preceding the American premiere of Mozart’s classic work 192 years ago.

The work, presented in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute of New York, has an original script that weaves together the memoirs of Lorenzo da Ponte with the letters of Maria Malibran and Manuel Garcia. Selections from “Don Giovanni” will appear in this new work. The Basilica of St. Patrick’s Cathedral was where these three figures would reunite some weeks after the 1826 premiere of “Don Giovanni,” the occasion being a sacred music concert. “Don Giovanni in New York” looks sure to be full of entertainment as well as insight into the history of one of opera’s most popular works.

The production will star Ricardo Rivera as Don Giovanni, Richard Bernstein as Leporello, Helena Brown as Donna Elvira, Jordan Pitts as Don Ottavio and Ashley Galvani Bell Donna Anna. Natalie Havens, Tyler Putnam, Michal Gizinski, Paulina Cossio, and Anton Armendariz Diaz round out the cast.

“Don Giovanni in New York” will have one performance with its next performance being Sept. 22, 2018.
