AVA Announced 2022 Giargiari Bel Canto Competition
By David SalazarPhiladelphia’s Academy of Vocal Arts has announced that the 2022 edition of the Giargiari Bel Canto Competition is headed to the Kimmel Center’s Perelman Theater on Sept. 30, 2022.
As with last year’s edition, AVA Master Vocal Coach Danielle Orlando will accompany the soloists.
The competition has showcased up-and-coming talent, helping to launch the careers of opera stars Stephen Costello, Angela Meade, Michael Fabiano, and Ailyn Pérez for over 40 years.
The 2021 winners included Anne Marie Stanley, Kevin Godínez, and Sahel Salam. A year earlier Kara Mulder was the top winner, while in 2019, soprano Yihan Duan took home both first prize and the audience award. Brent Michael Smith was the other winner of that year’s competition.
