Academy of Vocal Arts Announces Winners of Giargiari Bel Canto Competition

The Academy of Vocal Arts has announced the winners of the Giargiari Bel Canto Competition.

Taking home The James Parkinson Opera Foundation First Prize was Kara Mulder with Anne Marie Stanley obtaining The Cecile K. Dalton Second Prize. The winner of the Special Judge’s Award and Audience Favorite Award was Eric Delagrange.

Mudler interpreted Marietta’s Lied from Korngold’s “Die tote Stadt,” Delagrange sang “Abbietta zingara” from Verdi’s “Il Trovatore,” and Stanley performed “O mon Fernand” from Donizetti’s “La Favorite.”

The competition’s jury included soprano Angela Meade, Corrado Rovaris of Opera Philadelphia, and Christina Scheppelmann of Seattle Opera.

Other competitors included soprano Aubry Ballarò, mezzo-soprano Alice Chung, baritone Daniel Gallegos, mezzo-soprano Chelsea Laggan, baritone Titus Muzi, soprano Renée Richardson, mezzo-soprano Pascale Spinney, tenor Sahel Salam, and bass Griffen Hogan Tracey.
