Asturias Closes Theaters Due to COVID-19

By Francisco Salazar

The Asturian government has announced the closure of cultural activities for 15 days due to the rise in COVID-19 cases.

The Spanish region’s new restrictions will go into effect on Nov. 4 and will close museums, libraries, monuments, theaters, stadiums, hotels, and restaurants among others.

As a result, Ópera de Oviedo will close its doors and will be forced to cancel its final performance of “Madama Butterfly” starring Ainhoa Arteta and Jorge de León. The Orchestra will also be affected as it was supposed to perform a number of concerts.

The closure is the latest in Spain following Catalonia’s new lockdown. Spain has seen a surge in COVID-19 cases with a record high on Oct. 30 with 25, 595 new infections. The country currently has 1,313,087 confirmed cases with 36,257 confirmed deaths.
