The Royal Opera House is set to open a new production of Leoš Janáček‘s “Jenůfa” starting on March 24, 2020.

The production, which will be directed by Claus Guth, is the third in the company’s Janáček series following productions of “Kát’a Kabanová” in 2019 and “From the House of the Dead” in 2018. Moreover, this will be the first staging of “Jenůfa” at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden since 2001.

The opera will be headlined by soprano Asmik Grigorian in her company debut. She will be joined by famed soprano Karita Mattila, who will take on the role of the Kostelnička; Mattila was once an acclaimed interpreter of the title role.

Other cast members include tenor Pavel Černoch as Števa Buryja, tenor Allan Clayton as Laca Klemen, and mezzo-soprano Elena Zilio as Grandmother Buryjovka.

The production will be featured for a total of six performances, ending on April 9, 2020.
