Asmik Grigorian & Kristian Benedikt Lead Lithuanian National Opera’s 2019-20 Season

The Lithuanian State Opera has announced its 2019-20 season.

In a press statement General manager Jonas Sakalauskas said, “For the 100th season, it was our wholehearted goal to open up the main Lithuanian theatre stage to a broad circle of best Lithuanian artists. We hope that our theatregoers shall enjoy and appreciate this initiative.”

Operetta 

The season opens with Bernstein’s “Candide” with Vincent Boussard directing the new production.

Performance Dates: Sept. 13-Dec. 13, 2019

Julius Geniusas conducts Strauss’ “Wiener Blut” with Liudas Mikalauskas, Mindaugas Jankauskas, and Dovile Kazonaite.

Performance Dates: Dec. 4-5, 2019

Viktorija Miškūnaitė and Steponas Zonys star in Strauss’ “Die Fledermaus” with Julius Geniusas conducting.

Performance Dates: Dec. 18-21, 2019

Julius Geniusas conducts Lehar’s “The Merry Widow” with Steponas Zonys and Regina Šilinskaitė.

Performance Dates: Jan. 7-8, 2020

Opera 

Merūnas Vitulskis returns to Lithuania for Rodolfo in Puccini’s “La Bohème” alongside Agne Stancikaite, Viktorija Miškūnaitė, and Steponas Zonys.

Performance Dates: Sept. 26, 2019-March 13, 2020

Justina Gringytė sings the title role in Bizet’s “Carmen” with Andris Ludvigs and Kostas Smoriginas.

Performance Dates: Oct. 2-3, 2019

Kostas Smoriginas sings Mozart’s “Le Nozze di Figaro” with conductor Giedrė Šlekytė in his house debut. Joana Gedmintaitė, Lina Dambrauskaite, and Liudas Mikalauskas round out the cast.

Performance Dates: Oct. 10-12, 2019

Viktorija Miškūnaitė makes her house debut as Cio-Cio San in Puccini’s “Madama Butterfly” in Anthony Minghella’s acclaimed production. Adam Diegel sings the role of Pinkerton while Sesto Quatrini conducts.

Performance Dates: Nov. 3-12, 2019

Paul Nilon and Viktorija Miškūnaitė star in Mozart’s “Idomeneo” alongside conductor Modestas Barkauskas.

Performance Dates: Nov. 20-22, 2019

Onutė Narbutaitė’s “Cornet” returns to Lithuania with Robertas Šervenikas conducting.

Performance Dates: Jan. 29-30, 2020

Prokofiev’s opera “The Gambler” is set to get a new production directed by Vasily Barkhato. Conducted by Modestas Pitrėnas, the production star Asmik Grigorian, Justina Gringytė and Ieva Prudnikovaitė.

Performance Dates: Feb. 12-15, 2020

Kristian Benedikt sings Prince Calaf in “Turandot” alongside Sandra Janušaitė in the title role and Agne Stancikaite. Modestas Pitrenas conducts.

Performance Dates: Feb. 28-March 7, 2020

Kristian Benedikt sings the title role of Verdi’s “Ernani” with Sandra Janušaitė as Elvira. The opera will be conducted by Marcello Bufalini conducts the production.

Performance Dates: March 18-21, 2020

Sandra Janušaitė and Merunas Vitulskis star in Tchaikovsky’s “Eugene Onegin” with Robertas Šervenikas conducting.

Performance Dates: April 2-4, 2020

Edgaras Montvidas celebrates 20 years of career on stage with his debut in performances of Massenet’s “Manon.” The tenor will be joined by Viktorija Miškūnaitė in the title role and Kleanthe Russo conducting.

Performance Dates: April 16-25, 2020

Gaetano Donizetti’s masterpiece “Anna Bolena” is set to make sits company premiere directed by Andrea de Rosa and conducted by Sesto Quatrini. The production is a co-production between LNOBT and Teatro dell’ Opera di Roma.

Performance Dates: May 14-June 6, 2020 

Ballet/Opera

Sesto Quatrini will conduct the double bill of “The Miraculous Mandarin” and “Bluebeard’s Castle” with Liudas Mikalauskas as Bluebeard.
