By Francisco SalazarOn Jan. 18, the Teatro San Carlo will finally open its production of “Lucia di Lammermoor” with an all-star cast. The production will feature one of opera’s rising stars Pene Pati, who will make his highly anticipated house debut.
The performances will also mark Pati’s role debut as Edgardo, his second of three Donizetti roles this season which will also include his highly acclaimed Percy in “Anna Bolena.” It will also mark his second house debut of the season following his acclaimed first performances at the Paris Opera. The tenor is in the middle of a banner season which will also see debuts at the Wiener Staatsoper, San Diego Opera, Staatsoper Berlin, and Festival d’Aix-en-Provence. All these debuts should cement the tenor as one of the leading voices of his generation.
Critics have raved about Pati’s vocal quality and have stated that his voice “glowed with splendor and more sense of Italian style” during a recent production of “Anna Bolena.”
An Operalia and Neue Stimmen winner, this season Pati will show a diverse repertoire that will also include music by Verdi, Berlioz, Rossini, Gounod, and Massenet as well as the aforementioned Donizetti roles.
