Artist of the Week: Carolina Lopez Moreno

Bolivian-Albanian Soprano Makes Her Royal Opera House Debut

By Francisco Salazar

This week, the Royal Opera House will revive Gounod’s “Faust” with a cast of rising stars, including Carolina Lopez Moreno.

Moreno will make her Royal Opera House debut and her debut as Marguerite. It is perhaps one of her highest profile assignments to date after the soprano’s whirlwind months, which have seen her make unexpected debuts with the Gran Teatre del Liceu, the London Symphony Orchestra, and Teatro Carlo Felice. She has also demonstrated mastery in the works of Verdi and Puccini.

Critics have raved about the soprano’s voice, stating she sings with “glorious aplomb. She possesses a shimmering tone, often voluminous, with a radiant, top.”  They have also stated, “her phrasing is exquisite: there was beautiful tone, refined pianissimos, and high notes which floated effortlessly.”

For those not in London for the big debut, Moreno will sing in Edinburgh and Granada this summer as well as at the Puccini Festival and the BBC Proms. The 2025-26 season also sees performances in Barcelona, Cologne, and Firenze.
