On May 14, the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma will present a new production of Mozart’s “Il Re Pastore” with a cast of Mozart specialists, including Benedetta Torre, who will sing the role of Tamiri.
The soprano will make a double debut as she will sing the role for the first time in her career while making her very first appearances at the Teatro Nazionale in Roma. The debuts will be another milestone in Torre’s artistic development, particularly within the Mozart repertoire, where she has earned acclaim.
In a statement, Torre noted, “I am thrilled to have the opportunity to portray the exiled princess Tamiri here in Rome, a city where I first sang Susanna and where I performed my very first Mozart with stage director Graham Vick. Though ‘Il Re Pastore’ is not one of Mozart’s most famous operas, it is truly a hidden gem. The themes it explores, which remain incredibly relevant today, are conveyed both musically and dramatically with remarkable power by the young Mozart.”
In her career as a rising star, she has performed such Mozart works as the Requiem, “Le Nozze di Figaro,” and “La finta semplice.”
For those not in Rome for the debut, the opera will be broadcast on Rai Radio 3. For those not in Rome, the soprano is set to perform “Le Nozze di Figaro” in China and “Falstaff” in La Monnaie.
