Arte.tv is set to broadcast the Opernhaus Zürich’s new production of “Der Rosenkavalier.”

The broadcast will be held on Sept. 21, 2025 and will feature a new production by Lydia Steier conducted by Joana Mallwitz. The cast will include Diana Damrau as Die Feldmarschallin, Günther Groissböck as der Baron Ochs, Bo Skovhus as Herr von Faninal, Angela Brower as Octavian, and Emily Pogorelc as Sophie.

In a statement, Steier said, “I believe in entertainment, in grand spectacles, in being overwhelmed by lots of costumes. ‘Der Rosenkavalier’ by Strauss and Hofmannsthal is a brilliant play, a comedy with profound, heart-wrenching moments—not just a piece of witty conversation, but also filled with great Hollywood moments. The visual world created by Gottfried Helnwein in our production is a clearly structured, coherent world of color. But the eras represented in the costumes are almost entirely mixed. It’s flamboyant, full of poetry.”

“Der Rosenkavalier” is set to run through Oct. 26, 2025
