Arizona Opera Announces 2023-24 Season

The McDougall Red Series
The season opens with The McDougall Red Series with the world premiere of “Frankenstein” by Gregg Kallor. The score is a riveting, cinematic work and follows the successes of “Riders of the Purple Sage” and “The Copper Queen.” Edward Parks, Terrence Chin-Loy, Katherine Beck, Brad Bickhardt, and Melissa Solomon star. Clinton Smith conducts the new opera with Sarah Ina Meyers directing.
Performance Dates: October 13-22, 2023
Main Stage Series
The Main Stage series opens with Rossini’s “The Barber of Seville,” the bel canto comic masterpiece. The cast will include Elizabeth Sutphen, Véronique Filloux, Santiago Ballerini, Brian Wallin, Alexander Birch Elliott, Schyler Vargas, Aubrey Allicock, Peter Barber, and Lauren Cook. Roberto Kalb conducts the production by Joshua Borths.
Performance Dates: Jan. 27-Feb. 4, 2024
Gounod’s “Roméo & Juliette” will be performed four times. The cast includes Mario Chang, Terrence Chin-Loy, Jacqueline Echols, Caitlin Gotimer, Schyler Vargas, Matthew Anchel, Peter Barber, Brad Bickhardt, and Lauren Cook. Conductor Stephanie Rhodes Russell leads Patricia Racette’s production.
Performance Dates: March 2-10, 2024
Mozart’s “Don Giovanni” will close the main stage season. Richard Ollarsaba and Joseph Lattanzi lead the production alongside Vanessa Vasquez, Lydia Grindatto, Toni Marie Palmertree, Mary-Hollis Hundley, Brad Bickhardt, Zachary Nelson, Vanessa Becerra, Véronique Filloux, Peter Barber, and Adam Lau. Daniela Candillari conducts the production by Tara Faircloth.
Performance Dates: April 20-28, 2024
New Works Festival
The 2023-24 Season will mark the debut of the company’s New Works Festival. This wonderful and immersive experience will highlight three contemporary operas over the course three days. Attendees of the New Works Festival will have an opportunity to preview these poignant works in a fun and festive atmosphere featuring food trucks, beverages, and engaging activities to round out the weekend.
