Arena di Verona Announces Cast Change for ‘Carmen’

By Francisco Salazar

The Arena di Verona has announced a cast change for its production of Bizet’s “Carmen.”

The company said that Anita Rashvelishvili has withdrawn from a performance on July 6, 2023. She will be replaced by Clementine Margaine, who opened the production on June 23.

Rashvelishvili recently withdrew from Verona and the Bayerische Staatsoper’s productions of “Aida.” She also canceled her performances at the Festival Aix-en-Provence. She is set to return to the stage for “Il Trovatore” at the Teatro Colon in August.

Margaine joins a cast that includes Mariangela Sicilia, Freddie De Tommaso, and Dalibor Jenis. “Carmen” will be presented in Franco Zeiffrelli’s legendary production and will be conducted by Daniel Oren.
