Anthony Roth Costanzo & Zachary James Lead ‘Akhnaten’ Revival

The Metropolitan Opera is set to revive Philip Glass’s “Akhnaten.”

The production will return for six performances from May 19 to June 10, 2022 after the production won a Grammy Award.

When the production premiered in 2019 OperaWire said, “Anthony Roth Costanzo, Zachary James Lead The Best Met Production of the Year.”

For the upcoming revival countertenor Anthony Roth Costanzo will reprise his acclaimed portrayal of the title pharaoh and will be joined by Rihab Chaieb, Dísella Lárusdóttir, Aaron Blake, Will Liverman, Zachary James, and Richard Bernstein.

Conductor Karen Kamensek returns to the podium conducitng the production by Phelim McDermott. Sean Gandini also returns to choreograph a troupe of jugglers.

“Akhnaten” will be broadcast on Radio and Online on May 19 and 28, 2022 on Metropolitan Opera Radio on SiriusXM Channel 355 and on May 28, 2022, the performance will also be broadcast over the Toll Brothers–Metropolitan Opera International Radio Network.
