In anticipation of Opernhaus Zurich’s 2025-26 season announcement, it has been confirmed that Anna Netrebko will be back with the company for a production of “La Forza del Destino.”
The website Aargauer Zeitung confirmed that the new opera director, Matthias Schulz said, “We’ve also secured Anna Netrebko; she will soon sing Leonora in Verdi’s ‘Forza del destino’ in Zurich.” She will perform alongside Yusif Eyvazov.
The news comes as no surprise, as OperaWire reported that the soprano was re-invited for 2025 after having pulled out of her “Macbeth” engagement in 2022. Back then, former director Andreas Homoki noted that while Netrebko released a statement condemning the war, “she came to the conclusion that, in light of the current situation, she would prefer not to sing the performances in Zürich.”
Netrebko’s return to Zurich comes after the Royal Opera House announced that the soprano would be returning in two productions and a recital after six years and will be featured in seasons at the Teatro alla Scala, Paris Opera, Berlin State Opera, and Teatro Real de Madrid, among others.
The soprano has performed “La Forza del Destino” at the Royal Opera House, Teatro alla Scala, and Paris Opera.
