On Dec. 7, 2021 the Teatro alla Scala will open with a new production of Verdi’s “Macbeth” featuring an all-star cast.

The production will reunite Anna Netrebko and Luca Salsi in the lead roles after having opened the season during the 2019-20 season in a new production of “Tosca.”

They will be joined by Francesco Meli, who also starred in the “Tosca” production, and Ildar Abdrazakov, who recently opened the season in “Atilla” during the 2018-19 season.

The production will mark the fifth time Netrebko opens the season following productions of “Don Giovanni,” “Giovanna d’Arco,” “Andrea Chenier,” and “Tosca.”

Meanwhile, Salsi will open the season for the fourth time following productions of “Andrea Chenier,” Tosca,” and “A Riveder le Stelle.”

“Macbeth” will be directed by Davide Livermore with Riccardo Chailly conducting the work. The cast will be rounded out by Chiara Isotton, Iván Ayón Rivas, Andrea Pellegrini, Leonardo Galeazzi, and Costantino Finucci. Ewa Plonka is set to perform Lady Macbeth in one performance on Dec. 29.

“Macbeth” opens on Dec. 7 and will run until Dec. 29.
