Anthony Clark Evans is saying goodbye to the opera stage.

According to Promothean Artists, Evans’ performances as Marcello in Franco Zeffirelli’s production of “La Bohème” at the Metropolitan Opera will “conclude his life on the operatic stage.”

On his bio the management company said, “With this farewell engagement, Mr. Evans steps away from performing, carrying with him a legacy of artistry and the kind of human warmth that made every role he sang unmistakably his own.”

Evans was a former car salesman from Owensboro, Kentucky, who won the Met Opera competition in 2012, trained at Murray State University and the Ryan Opera Center at the Lyric Opera of Chicago. He went on to perform at the Opéra de Rouen Normandie, Atlanta Opera, Houston Grand Opera, and Santa Fe Opera.
