Anna Netrebko & Juan Diego Flórez Lead Screenings at Film Festival am Wiener Rathausplatz

The Wiener Staatsoper has announced that three operas will be presented as part of the Film Festival am Wiener Rathausplatz.

The festival will first present Puccini’s “Tosca” from a 2020 recording. The legendary production by Margarethe Wallmann stars Anna Netrebko in the role of Tosca, Yusif Eyvazov as Cavaradossi, and Wolfgang Koch as Scarpia. Conducting the production is Bertrand de Billy.

Presentation: July 5, 2023 at 9:30 p.m.

The second production will be Verdi’s “La Traviata” in a production by Simon Stone. The opera stars  Pretty Yende in the title role, forming the perfect stage couple with Juan Diego Flórez as Alfredo. Giacomo Sagripanti conducts the recording which was seen in 2021.

Presentation: July 12, 2023 at 9:30 p.m.

“Persinette” was the original version of a French folk tale that became known and popular as Rapunzel in the German-speaking region through the Brothers Grimm. Commissioned by the Wiener Staatsoper, composer Albin Fries and librettist Birgit Mathon created a three-act fairy tale opera that follows the storyline, the company presented a recording from 2019.
