The Mariinsky Theatre has announced several new productions to its “Stars of the White Nights” International Music Festival.

First up, the company will present Verdi’s “Macbeth” in a production starring soprano Anna Netrebko. The rest of the cast will be announced at a later date. Valery Gergiev will conduct the production, which is slated for June 19, 2021.

Additionally, the company has announced that Gergiev will conduct “Don Quichotte” starring Ferruccio Furlanetto on June 22, 2021.

Finally, the company will be presenting a new “Tannhäuser” on June 17 and 18. The opera will be performed by Sergei Skorokhodov, Mikhail Vekua, and Avgust Amonov.

“I’m expecting a lot from this production of ‘Tannhäuser,’” says maestro Valery Gergiev. “We are essentially staging a new production, and this production involves incredibly powerful singers. In so doing, we are expanding and cementing the Mariinsky Theatre’s ‘Wagneriana.’ If you also take into account the fact that soon we want to stage ‘Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg’ as well, then by late 2021 we will have ten of Richard Wagner’s operas in our repertoire.”
