Anita Rachvelishvili, Piotr Beczała, Federica Lombardi & Chen Reiss Headline Wiener Staatsoper Streaming Slate

The Wiener Staatsoper has announced the next slate of operas that will be presented on its streaming platform over the next week.

The week opens with three operas by Leoš Janáček.

First up is Leoš Janáček’s operatic masterwork “Káťa Kabanová” with Angela Denoke, Misha Didyk, Jane Henschel, and Dan Paul Dumitrescu. Tomáš Netopil conducts the production by André Engel. The opera was filmed on April 27, 2017.

Streaming date: Feb. 23, 2021 at 7 p.m. CET

Next up is “The Makropulos Affair,” which features Laura Aikin, Ludovit Ludha, Thomas Ebenstein, and Margarita Gritskova. Jakub Hrůša conducts the production by Peter Stein. The opera was filmed on Dec. 20, 2015.

Streaming date: Feb. 24, 2021 at 7 p.m. CET

Das schlaue Füchslein” follows. The showcase spotlights Chen Reiss, Roman Trekel, Hyuna Ko, Joseph Dennis, Paolo Rumetz, and Marcus Pelz. Tomáš Netopil conducts the production by Otto Schenk. The opera was filmed on April 11, 2016

Streaming date: Feb. 25, 2021 at 7 p.m. CET

The opera house will then stream two recent premieres. The first one is Calixto Bieito’s production of Bizet’s “Carmen.” The showcase stars Anita Rachvelishvili, Piotr Beczała, Erwin Schrott, Vera-Lotte Boecker, Slávka Zámečníková, Szilvia Vörös, Peter Kellner, Martin Häßler, Carlos Osuna, and Michael Arivony. Andrés Orozco-Estrada conducts. The opera was filmed on Feb. 21, 2021.

Streaming date: Feb. 26, 2021 at 7 p.m. CET

A new production of Mozart’s “Le Nozze di Figaro” ends the streaming slate. The opera stars Andrè Schuen, Federica Lombardi, Philippe Sly, Louise Alder, and Virginie Verrez. Philippe Jordan conducts the production by Jean-Pierre Ponnelle. The opera was filmed on Feb. 4, 2021.
