Anita Rachvelishvili, Liudmyla Monastyrska & Russell Thomas Highlight Deutsche Oper Berlin’s June Performances

The Deutsche Oper Berlin has announced that it will reopen its doors to the audiences in June 2021, after seven month-long hiatus. Per the official press release, the reopening is epidemiologically possible as the seven-day COVID-19 incidence in Berlin has gone below the critical value of 100.

The opera house will officially reopen on June 11 with a concert performance “Best of Don Carlo” that is set to star Yosep Kang as Don Carlo, Davide Luciano as Rodrigo, Patrick Guetti as the Grand Inquisitor, Dinara Alieva in the role of Elisabetta di Valois, and Anita Rachvelishvili as Eboli. Sir Donald Runnicles conducts the performances set for June 11 & 13, 2021.

The concert performances of “Best of La Forza del Destino” will spotlight Liudmyla Monastyrska in the role of Donna Leonora, Roman Burdenko as Don Carlo di Vargas, and Russell Thomas as Don Alvaro. The cast also includes Jana Kurucová, Ante Jerkunica, and Misha Kiria. Paolo Arrivabeni conducts the performances scheduled for June 17 & 18, 2021.

Finally, the opera house will premiere its previously postponed production of Wagner‘s “Das Rheingold” on June 12. The opera will spotlight Derek Welton, Thomas Lehman, Matthew Newlin, Thomas Blondelle, Markus Brück, Ya-Chung Huang, Andrew Harris, Tobias Kehrer, Annika Schlicht, Jacquelyn Stucker, Judit Kutasi, Valeriia Savinskaia, Irene Roberts, and Karis Tucker. Sir Donald Runnicles conducts the production by Stefan Herheim. The run of “Das Rheingold” is set to end on June 27, after a total of six performances.
