Angela Gheorghiu, Cecilia Bartoli, Bryn Terfel Lead Opéra de Monte-Carlo’s 2021-22 Season
By Francisco SalazarThe Opéra de Monte-Carlo has announced its 2021-22 season featuring concerts, recitals, and operatic productions.
Angela Gheorghiu opens the season in a recital with pianist Jeff Cohen. The program will include works by Durante, Paisiello, Bellini, Donizetti, Tosti, Respighi, Schumann, R. Strauss, Rachmaninov, Rameau, Martini, Debussy, Massenet, Brediceanu, Stephanescu, Flotow, and Satie.

Aleksandra Kurzak leads Puccini’s “Madama Butterfly“ with Giampaolo Bisanti conducting a production by Mireille Laroche. The cast also includes Annalisa Stroppa, Marcelo Puente, and Massimo Cavalletti.
Performance Dates: Nov. 16-21, 2021
Jordi Bernacer leads a Spanish gala with Plácido Domingo, Saioa Hernández, and Ismael Jordi.
Performance Date: Nov. 19, 2021
Massimo Zanetti conducts Verdi’s rarely performed “Il Corsaro” with Giorgio Berrugi as Corrado, Irina Lungu as Medora, Artur Ruciński as Seid, and Roberta Mantegna as Gulnara.
Performance Date: Dec. 12 & 14, 2021
Cecilia Bartoli leads Rossini’s “Il Turco in Italia” in a production by Jean-Louis Grinda. Gianluca Capuano conducts a cast that is rounded by José Maria Lo Monaco, Barry Banks, David Astorga, Ildar Abdrazakov, and Nicola Alaimo.

Jean-François Borras sings the title role in Massenet’s “Werther“ with Jean-François Lapointe, Stéphanie d’Oustrac, and Jennifer Courcier. Henrik Nánási conducts the production by Jean-Louis Grinda.

Trevor Scheunemann, Daniel Brenna, Michael Porter, Annemarie Kremer, and Lucy Schaufer lead Berg’s “Wozzeck“ with Kazuki Yamada conducting a production by Michel Fau.

Maria Agresta, Claudio Sgura, and Yusif Eyvazov headline Puccini’s “Manon Lescaut“ with Pinchas Steinberg conducting.

Sir Byrn Terfel performs a recital of music by Finzi, Thomas, Novello, Schubert, Debussy, Schumann, Schonberg, Guridi, Boito, Wagner, and Beethoven. Hannah Stone and Annabel Thwaite accompany.
Performance Date: April 26, 2022
The season will also showcase a concert by the Académie de l’Opéra de Monte-Carlo.

Kazuki Yamada leads Berlioz’s “La Damnation de Faust” with Jean-Louis Grinda directing. The cast includes Pene Pati, Aude Extrémo, and Nicolas Courjal.

Sabine Devieilhe leads Delibes’ “Lakmé” alongside Fleur Barron, Erminie Blondel, Charlotte Bonnet, Cyrille Dubois, Lionel Lhote, Pierre Doyen, and Svetlana Lifar. Laurent Campellone conducts.
