The Philadelphia Orchestra will kick off its 2020-21 season with an opening night celebration for the digital stage.

The event, set for Sept. 30, 2020, will be led by music director Yannick Nézet-Séguin and will feature Coleman’s “Seven O’Clock Shout,” Rossini’s “The Thieving Magpie” overture, Verdi’s “D’amor sull’ali rosee” from “Il Trovatore,” Mozart’s Symphony No. 29, and the first Philadelphia Orchestra performance of Martin’s “Rare Bird Alert.”

The featured soloists include soprano Angel Blue, pianist Lang Lang, banjo player Steve Martin, and special guest Billie Jean King.

“We are thrilled to open our season by welcoming close friends and collaborators Angel Blue, Lang Lang, Steve Martin, and Billie Jean King,” said Nézet-Séguin in a press release. “Though this season looks different than originally planned, we know that music will continue to be an artistic force connecting us to each other and to the world around us.”

Nézet-Séguin will be commencing his ninth season with the Orchestra.

The concert will be available for repeat viewings through Oct. 7, 2020.
