Anett Fritsch, Yann Beuron & Eloise Hynes Stowe Lead New CD/DVD Releases

By Francisco Salazar

This week audiences will get to see two rarely performed works on DVD and a new album of PSALMS. Here is a look:

La finta giardiniera

Naxos releases Mozart’s early work “La finta giardiniera” from the Teatro alla Scala with a cast that includes Krešimir Špicer, Julie Martin du Theil, Bernard Richter, Anett Fritsch, Giulia Semenzato, Lucia Cirillo, and Mattia Olivieri. The Orchestra del Teatro alla Scala, playing on period instruments, is led by period specialist Diego Fasolis. OperaWire noted that it was “A Fine Performance With a Destructive, Though Fascinating, Production”

Barbe-Bleue

Opus Arte releases Offenbach’s work in a production by Laurent Pelly from the Opéra de Lyon. The cast included Yann Beuron as Barbe-Bleue and mezzo-soprano Héloïse Mas as the saucy Boulett. The cast was rounded out by Christophe Mortagne, and Christophe Gay. Michele Spotti conducted. The new release has a bonus feature, a 50-minute documentary called “Tales of Offenbach,” directed by Reiner E. Moritz and narrated by that scintillating Offenbachian Dame Felicity Lott.

PSALMS

Navona Records releases Eloise Hynes Stowe’s new album. PSALMS is Scored for voice and occasionally supplemented by flute and violin. The pieces demonstrate the literary and emotional grasp of the biblical texts and ecclesiastical interpretations.
