American Symphony Orchestra To Do US Premiere of Martinu Opera During 2018-19 Season

The American Symphony Orchestra has announced its 2018-19 season at Carnegie Hall. The upcoming series of performances will feature a number of operatic and vocal works, which will be the focus of this article.

The season kicks off with “A Walt Whitman Sampler,” which includes the US premiere of Otham Schoeck’s “Tommelschläge,” the New York premiere of Kurt Weill’s “Four Walt Whitman Songs,” the NY premiere of Schreker’s “Vom ewigen Leben,” and Ralph Vaughan Williams’ first symphony. Soloists are yet to be announced.

Performance Date: Oct. 17, 2018

In 2019, the orchestra will give the US premiere of the Czech version of Martinu’s opera “Julietta.” The work was first staged at the Prague National Theatre in 1938. Soloists will be announced at a later date.

Performance Date: March 22, 2019

The company will also give a performance on Jan 25, 2019, that will feature William Schuman’s Symphony No. 3 and Vivian Fine’s Concertante for Piano and Orchestra, among other works.

Leon Botstein will conduct all three performances.
