American Lyric Theater to Showcase ‘Opera in Eden – Three One Act Operas’

American Lyric Theater is presenting “Opera in Eden – Three One Act Operas” on June 14, 2025 at the Leonard Nimoy Thalia Theater in New York City.

The trio of operas includes “Fourth Wave Beauty Queens,” “Giovanni/a,” and The Shadow.”

“Fourth Wave Beauty Queens,” created by composer Kathleen Tagg and librettist Laura Barati, centers on the relationship between Délia, a feminist academic researching extreme beauty treatments, and her mother. Their relationship is put to the test when Délia receives a product that appeals to her greatest temptations.

Composer Del’Shawn Taylor and librettist C.S. Hansen’s “Giovanni/a” is set in 16th-century Padua and follows the story of monks Nico and Giovanni. Their peaceful existence is threatened by attraction and deep secrets that will be revealed as a result.

Finally, “The Shadow” is an opera by composer Ivette Herryman Rodriguez and librettist Samuel Norman that explores an experiment gone wrong as a man detaches himself from his shadow. It is based on the Hans Christian Andersen tale.

The performance kicks off at 7 p.m. local time.
