Amanda Majeski, Karen Slack, Jennifer Rowley, Patrick Carfizzi & Others Join Curtis Institute of Music’s Voice Faculty

The Curtis Institute of Music has announced several major appointments to its voice and opera department beginning in the 2025–26 school year.

Among the artists joining the faculty are bass-baritones Patrick Carfizzi and Alan Held; baritone Elliot Madore (Opera ’10, Voice ’09); and sopranos Amanda Majeski (Opera ’09), Jennifer Rowley, and Karen Slack (Opera ’02).

Moreover, the institution has announced that will will establish three new leadership positions within the department, with Karen Slack named Creative Advisor and also serving as Advisor for the school’s new Center for Leadership, Innovation, and Partnership. Meanwhile, Amanda Majeski will serve as Pedagogical Advisor.

Stage director and writer John Matsumoto Giampietro, already a member of the Curtis faculty, has been appointed Dramatic Advisor, Acting Instructor, and Resident Stage Director. Giampietro, Majeski, and Slack will each advise Miloš Repický, Director and Hirsig Family Chair in Vocal Studies and Opera.

Also announced was the addition of the three new Visiting Faculty members, including mezzo-soprano J’Nai Bridges (Opera ’12), baritone Jarrett Ott (Opera ’14), and bass John Relyea (Opera ’96). Beginning in 2025–26, these artists will complete residencies at least once per semester and offer mentorship and career insights to Curtis students.

“This new leadership team reflects the collaborative philosophy of our vocal studies department. With the addition of their tremendous experiences and perspectives, together we look to create an expansive vision for artistic programming, operatic training, and new possibilities for the direction and evolution of opera,” Mr. Repický, per an official press release.
