Opera Verace Foundation has announced that mezzo-soprano Alma Neuhaus is the first-ever recipient of its annual Young Artist Career Development Grant.
She takes home $10,000 in recognition of her “vocal artistry and compelling stage presence.”
Neuhaus is a Minnesota native who is a member of the ensemble at the Vienna State Opera. She is an alumna of the Opernstudio and the Salzburger Festspiele Young Artists Programme and the Music Academy of the West.
Per an official press release, the Foundation’s leadership first noticed the mezzo when she performed as a Page in “Salome” at Vilnius. They then saw her in “Die Zauberflöte” in Vienna as the Second Lady before truly falling for her during a recital of French songs in Minneapolis.
“We witnessed a rich, amber-colored sound evenly blended across the vocal registers, coupled with great intelligence and communicative power enabling her to put across sophisticated music to an audience likely unfamiliar with it,” the founders said per the press release.
