Portland Opera has announced its 2021-22 season.

The company revealed that it will be performing three opera productions in addition to several community, digital, and educational programs.

“We’ve spent the past year digging deep into our identity, and listening to community members,” said Sue Dixon, General Director in a press release. “The core of our work is to share stories through song. Some may be through rose tinted lenses, and others based on truths that give us an honest portrayal of our current struggles as a society. Today we share our new mission, vision, and values for the company, along with a season that reflects this rededication of Portland Opera.”

Tosca will be presented at Keller Auditorium in a production directed by Linda Brovsky and conducted by Antonello Allemandi. Alexandra LoBianco, Angelo Villari, and Gordon Hawkins will star.

Performance Dates: Oct. 29-Nov. 6, 2021 (potential postponement dates – May 13-21, 2022)

The company will then present Leslie Uyeda and Rachel Rose’s “When the Sun Comes Out.” The production will be directed by Alison Moritz and conducted by Maria Sensi. The work is set in a dystopian country that challenges the criminalization of people of the LGBTQ+ community. The work premiered in 2013. The opera will star Cree Carrico and Sandra Piques Eddy with additional castmates set to be announced at a future date.

Performance Dates: Jan. 28- Feb. 12, 2022

The final production of the new season will be “The Central Park Five” by Anthony Davis and Richard Wesley. The opera will be directed by Nataki Garrett and conducted by Kazem Abdullah. Donovan Singletary, Aubrey Allicock, Bernard Holcomb, Victor Ryan Robertson, Johnathan McCullough, and Nathan Granner will headline the cast.

Performance Dates: March 18-26, 2022
