Alexander Tsymbalyuk Cancels ‘Iolanta’ In Paris

By Francisco Salazar

The Opéra National de Paris has announced a cast change for its upcoming revival of Tchaikovsky’s “Iolanta.”

The company announced that due to a road accident, Alexander Tsymbalyuk has been forced to withdraw from the production. As a result, the role of King René will be interpreted by Krzysztof Baczyk.

This is the latest cast change for this upcoming revival. Last week it was announced that Ain Anger had to cancel the role of King René due to health reasons. As a result, Tsymbalyuk was set to perform the role.

It is also the second cancellation for Tsymbalyuk with the company, as he had to cancel the run of Shostakovitch’s “Lady Macbeth of Mtsenk” in Paris for health reasons. As a result, Baczyk and Sava Vemic replaced him.

“Iolanta” opens on May 9 and is set to star Valentina Naforniţă, Dmytro Popov, Artur Ruciński, Johannes Martin Kränzle, and Elena Zaremba.
