Aleksandra Kurzak, Sondra Ravdanovsky & Lise Davidsen Lead Metropolitan Opera’s ‘Tosca’ Revival

The Metropolitan Opera is set to present Puccini’s “Tosca” for 13 performances.

The production, which runs between Sept. 25 and Jan. 23, will feature three casts. The opening cast in September–October, will star soprano Aleksandra Kurzak in the title role alongside tenor SeokJong Baek and baritone George Gagnidze. Xian Zhang and Marco Armiliato conduct.

OperaWire raved about Kurzak and said, “This vocal writing suited Kurzak to perfection and her sound floated seamlessly and flexibly throughout.”

In November, Lise Davidsen takes on the title role alongside Freddie de Tommaso and Quinn Kelsey. Music Director, Yannick Nézet-Séguin conducts.

Finally, in January, Sondra Radvanovsky takes on her acclaimed turn as Tosca alongside tenor Brian Jagde and Bryn Terfelwho returns to the Met for the first time in over a decade. Maestro Zhang conducts. Regarding Radvanovsky and Jagde OperaWire noted, “Brian Jagde and Sondra Radvanovsky Deliver Show-Stopping Performances.”

On Nov. 12, honoring the centenary of Puccini’s death—and to mark the first-ever Met performance of the title role by soprano Lise Davidsen—the company presents a special gala performance conducted by Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin, including a historical tribute that will precede the performance. The night will also include a pre-curtain cocktail reception and a post-performance dinner with the cast.

The matinee performance of “Tosca” on Nov. 23, will be transmitted live to movie theaters around the globe as part of The Met: Live in HD series. The Oct. 3 and 11, November 15, and January 23 performances of Tosca will be broadcast live on Metropolitan Opera Radio on the SiriusXM app.
