Opera Rara has announced the release of Donizetti’s “Il Paria.”

The new recording is set to be released on Jan. 15 by Warner Classics and marks the 26th complete opera by Donizetti for Opera Rara. Sir Mark Elder conducts the work with a cast that includes Albina Shagimuratova, René Barbera, and Misha Kiria.

“Il Paria” was recorded in the studio prior to a performance at London’s Barbican Centre in June 2019 and marks the opera’s first studio recording and only the second recording in existence – the first was released in 2001.

Prior to the release, Opera Rara will release three tracks on Dec. 4, 18, and Jan. 8.

“Il Paria” will be followed by a recording of Donizetti’s “Il furioso all’isola di San Domingo,” in an entirely new performing edition. Carlo Rizzi, the company’s newly appointed Artistic Director, conducts Britten Sinfonia in their second collaboration with Opera Rara while Albina Shagimuratova once again takes the lead soprano role.

Opera Rara will record “Il furioso” for a release in 2022 and is scheduled to perform the work at the Barbican on July 8, 2021.
