Alan Gilbert has been hospitalized for COVID-19.

The conductor was admitted a week ago for the virus in Stockholm where COVID-19 cases are currently on the rise.

Gilbert announced he had COVID-19 on April 14 in a statement on Facebook noting “As some people are already aware, I’ve recently contracted COVID-19, was admitted to hospital over the weekend and am responding well to treatment. Many people have been trying to reach me and I want to thank you all for your concern. I am looking forward to having some quiet time now to focus on my recovery.”

Gilbert is currently the Music Director of the Royal Swedish Opera which recently had to close down after it suffered an outbreak of 15 cases. In a statement, Birgitta Svendén, the president of the Swedish institution, said that none of the employees tested positive and the episode of contamination is not considered a cluster because none of the infected had been close to each other.
