‘Akhnaten’s’ Zachary James to Present ‘Das Rhinestone’ At The Slipper Room in NYC

Zachary James, the star of the Met Opera’s current production of “Akhnaten” is set to appear at The Slipper Room with a presentation of “Das Rhinestone,” a Wagnerian Burlesque Extravaganza on Dec. 23, 2019.

The event, which will feature vaudeville, pastiche and a number of surprising operatic moments. Among the artists that will be joining James (who will play the role of Wotan) in the performance are soprano Megan Nielson as Brünnhilde, and Alissa Anderson as Erde.

Nielson has performed with such companies as Regina Opera, Opera Ithaca, Amore Opera, Chelsea Opera, Utopia Opera, and Knoxville Opera, among others. Anderson has appeared with Santa Fe Opera, Opera Philadelphia, and the Royal Danish Opera.

Sean Blue, Kelsey Strauch, and Dorothy Peterson will also join the artists with Michael Lewis at the piano.

James is currently performing the role of Amenhotep III in Philip Glass’ “Akhnaten” at the Metropolitan Opera. His performance has been lauded with OperaWire’s review noting that his appearance,”coupled with how the production incorporated him, was arguably the greatest masterstroke of the entire evening.”
