Ainhoa Arteta Receives Gran Cruz del Dos de Mayo

Soprano Ainhoa Arteta has been awarded the Gran Cruz del Dos de Mayo.

The award is the most valuable distinction given by the community of Madrid and is given to an individual or institution that has contributed to the political, economical, social, or cultural endeavors.

Arteta will be given the award alongside musician Nacho Cano, historian Carmen Iglesias, and neurobiologist Rafael Yuste. Isabel Díaz Ayuso, president of the community announced the honorees.

Arteta is a well-known Spanish soprano who has performed around the world at the Metropolitan Opera, Teatro Real, Gran Teatre del Liceu, Washington National Opera, Teatro del Colón, and Royal Opera House. Her repertoire includes works by Puccini, Giordano, and Verdi, among others. She is also a huge advocate of zarzuela and performs regularly at the Teatro del la Zarzuela in Madrid.
