Santiago Ballerini, Sondra Radvanovsky, Diana Damrau, Kristine Opolais Headline Teatro del Colón’s 2021 Season

The Teatro Colón de Buenos Aires has announced programming for its 2021 season which will kick off this April.

For our purposes, we will focus on vocal content and operatic performances.

Opera

It all kicks off with Monteverdi’s “Altri Canti.” Marcelo Birman conducts an ensemble that includes Oriana Favaro, Daniela Tabernig, Constanza Díaz Falú, Adriana Mastrángelo, Martín Oro, Víctor Torres, Hernán Iturralde, and Iván Garcia.

Performance Dates: April 27 – May 4, 2021

César Bustamante will conduct a production of Handel’sTheodora” as directed by Alejandro Tantanian. Jacquelina Livieri, Martín Oro, Florenia Machado, Santiago Martínez, Ricardo Seguel, and Mercedes Morán star.

Performance Dates: June 15-19, 2021 

Carlos Vieu conducts the double bill of Cavalleria Rusticana” and “Pagliacci” as directed by Miguel Martínez. The cast includes Guadalupe Barrientos, María Luján Mirabelli, Enrique Folger, Leonardo López Linares, and Leonardo Estévez, among others.

Performance Dates: July 1-11, 2021

Mozart’sLa Finta Giardiniera” will star Verónica Cangemi, Oriana Favaro, Florencia Machado, Santiago Ballerini, Fernando Radó, and Lucas Debevec Mayer. Srba Dinic conducts a new production by Hugo De Ana.

Performance Dates: Oct. 5-13, 2021

Menotti’s “The Consul” will be presented in a new production by Rubén Szuchmacher with Marcelo Ayud conducting a cast that includes Leonardo Neiva, Adriaa Mastrángelo, Carlos Ullán, Luciano Garay, and Héctor Guedes.

Performance Dates: Nov. 16-23, 2021

Concerts

Enrique Arturo Diemecke will lead the Orquesta Filarmónica de Buenos Aires in Schoenberg’s version of Mahler’s “Das Lied von der Erde” with Guadalupe Barrientos and Gustavo López Manzitti as soloists.

Performance Dates: April 29, 2021 

The Orquesta Estable del Teatro Colón will perform Pergolesi’s “Stabat Mater” with soprano Jaquelina Livieri and mezzo-soprano Florencia Machado as the soloists. Martín Jorge conducts.

Performance Dates: May 9, 2021

Tenor Darío Schmunck will appear alongside the Orquestra Estable del Teatro Colón with Maximiano Valdés at the podium. The concert will feature music by Strauss, Vaughan Williams, Britten, and Ravel.

Performance Dates: May 16, 2021 

Soprano Carla Filipcic Holm will appear in a concert with the Orquesta Estable del Colón performing music by Beethoven.

Performance Dates: May 30, 2021 

Soprano Verónica Cangemi will perform music by Mozart in a concert conducted by César Bustamante.

Performance Dates: Sept. 12, 2021

Mario Perusso will lead a performance of Puccini’s “Messa di Gloria” that will feature both the Orquesta Estable and Coro Estable del Colón.

Performance Dates: Oct. 24, 2021

The Coro Estable del Teatro Colón will perform a Chamber concert of works by Brahms, Schumann, Fauré, and Rossini under the musical direction of Miguel Martínez.

Performance Dates: June 6, 2021

The Coro Estable del Teatro Colón will perform Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle with Jaquelina Livieri, María Luisa Merino, Darío Schmunck, and Lucas Debevec Mayer as the soloists. Miguel Martínez conducts.

Performance Dates: October 2021

The Coro Estable del Colón will perform a Christmas concert that includes Ramírez’s Misa Criolla. Miguel Martínez conducts.

Performance Dates: December 2021

 There will be a chamber concert featuring music by famed women composers such as Fanny Mendelssohn, Clara Wielck, Alma Mahler, Cécile Chaminade, Rebecca Clarke, Pauline Viardot, Lili Boulanger, Isabel Aretz, Amy Beach, and Eva Lopszyc. Among the soloists in the performance will be Daniela Tabernig.

A baroque concert dedicated to women composers including Anna Isabella Leonarda, Bárbara Strozzi, Francesca Caccini, and Élizabeth Jacquet de La Guerre will star Marisú Pavón, among others.

Recitals

Soprano Ainhoa Arteta and mezzo-soprano Nancy Fabiola Herrera will team up with pianist Marcelo Ayub for a recital.

Performance Dates: June 5, 2021

Soprano Diana Damrau and bass Nicolás Testé will perform alongside pianist Helmut Deutsch.

Performance Dates: July 3, 2021

Soprano Sondra Radvanovksy will debut at the Colón alongside pianist Anthony Manoli as they perform music by Donizetti from his famed Tudor Trilogy.

Performance Dates: Oct. 22, 2021

Soprano Kristine Opolais and pianist Constantine Orbelian will perform in late October.

Performance Dates: Oct. 30, 2021

Mezzo-soprano Elena Maximova will make her debut alongside pianist Alexandra Golubitskaia.

Performance Dates: Nov. 7, 2021

There will also be several recitals featuring Argentine singers such as Carla Filipcic Holm, Víctor Torres, Adriana Mastrángelo, Jaquelina Livieri, Lucas Debevec Mayer, Marina Silva, Santiago Ballerini, Hernán Iturralde, Oriana Favaro, Florencia Machado, and Ricardo Seguel, among others.
