The Staatsoper Hamburg has announced a cast change for Verdi’s “Otello.”

The company announced that Ailyn Pérez will take over the role of Desdemona replacing Krassimira Stoyanova.

Pérez is coming off acclaimed performances at the Wiener Staatsoper where she sang the title role in Massenet’s “Manon.” The soprano is scheduled to return to the Metropolitan Opera in April for a production of “Simon Boccanegra” and “La Bohème.” She is also set to perform at the Palau de les Arts and the Santa Fe Opera.

The soprano joins a cast that includes José Cura, Dovlet Nurgeldiyev, Cristina Damian, and Andrzej Dobber. Matteo Beltrami conducts the production by Calixto Bieito.

“Otello” is set to be performed on March 12 and 15, 2020.

Stoyanova returns to the stage in April for “Tannhäuser” at the Teatro alla Scala.
